February is Pet Dental Health Month
According to the American Veterinary Dental Society, signs of oral disease are present in 80-percent of dogs over age three. Dental problems serve as an indicator, and sometimes the primary symptom, of serious diseases impacting the heart, liver and lungs. The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) recommends dental care begin at puppy stage and continue throughout a dog's life.
Just as with humans, preventive care begins at home. The two most important things you can take charge of are brushing and feeding. Few dogs enjoy having a toothbrush in their mouths, so the AAHA provides tips to ease the practice. Feeding is the fun part! Charlie's Story
