In typical Zuke's style, our Sales Director, Scott Doyle, and his life partner Carol are cycling from their home north of Toronto in Ontario Canada, to their favorite place to visit during the winter, Tampa, Florida.

Help! My dog/cat ate a whole bag of treats.
I am a professional dog trainer and have long been a fan of Zuke's Mini-Naturals treats. I carry them in my retail store and sell a lot of them to my students. I’m not sure I understand the cartoony look of your new packaging. I am concerned that it will diminish the brand image. Also the coloring of the bags is so similar that it is hard to tell the flavors apart at a quick glance (at least chicken and peanut butter - I haven't seen salmon or rabbit in new packages yet). I'm guessing you had a good reason for changing your packaging, but I think your previous packages were much better.
I know some companies use animal testing for dog treats/food - does yours?
My dog is diabetic. Are your treats free of sugars and corn syrups and are they safe for diabetics?
Your products are labeled “soy free” but contain Lecithin. Isn’t Lecithin soy?
What’s the "shelf life" of your treats? I like to buy in bulk and if I leave them unopened I want to make sure that they will stay fresh.
Do your treats need to be refrigerated?
Why do you use salt in your treats? I’ve heard salt is not good for dogs to eat.
Can you confirm that your products are made in the USA and also tell me where the meat comes from? I don’t want to feed my dogs any products from China and I am finding that many of the jerky type treats are all manufactured in China.
The 'tiny shiny fragments' that you are seeing is actually the Glucosamine that we add to the Hip Action treats that makes them work so well for your pets. As we use fresh ingredients, sometimes there are inconsistencies in the batches, but the product is not bad. Sometimes the Glucosamine rises to the surface of the treat, appearing as tiny, shiny flakes. However, the next bag you buy will hopefully be what you are used to!

Yes. All of the testimonials on our website were provided by our customers. We reserve the right to edit testimonials for clarity or to remove testimonials at any time.
Servings vary depending on your pet's size, weight and activity level. When treating your dog or cat, consider the total calories he or she should eat in a day, and make sure to include Zuke's in that calorie count.
Power Bones have a new formula which utilizes protein (beef, chicken or peanut butter), complex carbohydrates (rice, oats, barley, apples and sweet potatoes) and simple carbohydrates (natural sugars from beets, and maple syrup) to give dogs the energy they need.
Yes, garlic is safe for dogs unless they consume more than one clove per ten pounds of body weight per day. Zuke's products contain only a small amount of garlic, which we include for its high antioxidant value.
Zuke's uses ocean-caught salmon when available in all their dog and cat treats.
The calorie content varies from treat to treat.
Please refer to the "Ingredient Information" on each product page for this information when avaialable.
All of Zuke's treats are naturally preserved with salt, phosphoric acid and sorbic acid.
We recommend that you feed our dog treats to dogs and the same for cats.
Yes, but to protect teeth completely thaw treats before feeding. Please pay careful attention to condensation buildup that can result in mold formation.
Don't be alarmed. If you notice a change in urine color to pink or red it is an indication that your dog is digesting the bone well and excess, anti-oxidant Cherry is being secreted normally. It is like when a human takes a Multi Vitamin and his/her urine turns darker yellow.
Your dog's safety is the most important thing to us. Because of how small the digestive system is in a young puppy, the mini Z-Bone is more volume than we feel a dog of that size can safely eat.
Your dog's safety is the most important thing to us. Because of how small the digestive system is in a five pound dog, the small Z-Bone is more volume than we feel a dog of that size can safely eat.
Most of Zuke's products are great for puppies, especially Mini Naturals. Z–Bone bones are not meant for dogs under 6 months of age.
Chondroitin is derived from Beef extract.
Glucosamine is derived through fermentation.
Both are produced in the USA!
Don't worry – your pet may have an upset stomach and he could have diarrhea or gas, as can happen when pets eat too much of anything. If you're still feeling concerned, or if you feel your pet is overly distressed, we recommend that you seek advice from your veterinarian.
We’re sorry to hear that you are not pleased with our new packaging. We are now portraying the colorful Zuke’s story with our new look. The new Zuke Dog was drawn to represent the Zuke's philosophy–Be Healthy, Be Active and Be Devoted.
The Mini Naturals portrays a ‘Be Devoted’ – Well Behaved Zuke, excited about the treats and love he is getting from his pet parent, and giving that devotion right back! On our other packaging, you will see other enthusiastic, excited Zuke Dogs:
• ‘Be Active’ – Bounding Zuke (on the Hip Action pouch, representing an older dog with renewed energy) and Soaring Zuke (on our new amazing Super Foods line of soft treats with a green background, showing how good
• ‘Be Healthy’ Trekking Zuke (on our re-formulated grain-free Z-Filets in a brown pouch, showing the healthy, happy Zuke).
The new packaging also unifies the look of our product, with all Hip Action products being blue, Mini Naturals- yellow, Z-Filets- brown and so forth. This makes it much easier to identify our different formulas at a glance. The flavors are also color-coded across the product lines, making it easy to identify all our different flavors: chicken will always be yellow, salmon will always be pink, beef will always be blue, etc.
We do take your concerns and comments seriously and log each and every praise and complaint. We appreciate your input, and will be sure to address it in a future packaging revision.
Because of the high quality ingredients we use in all of our treats we do not perform animal testing for safety or nutritional purposes. We have all of our treats analyzed in a lab to verify the contents and the amounts of protein, fat, fiber, potassium, calcium, and sodium among other things. We also test the "tastiness" of the treats by feeding them to our own pets and sending them out to veterinary hospitals, humane societies and others who fill out a survey asking about how the dogs responded to the treats. In short, we really don't do any kind of "animal testing" in the conventional sense. Just feeding to willing participants to make sure they like the taste of our treats!
While we do not make a treat specifically for diabetic pets, several of our treats do not contain sugar. Mini Naturals (in Chicken, Peanut Butter and Salmon flavors) are only 3 calories per treat, and contain no added sugars or sweeteners. Several of our treats have maple syrup or molasses as sweeteners and may not be advisable for your dog. If you want more detailed information on the ingredients in each of our treats, you can visit our website, www.zukes.com/products. Each product page lists ingredients and guaranteed analysis.
Our lecithin is derived from soy and sunflower oils. However, it should not be an issue or thought of as an allergen is because it is extracted from the oils or fats of the soybean. Fats are not the cause of allergies, proteins are the actual culprits. Lecithin is used as an emulsifier, which helps breakdown proteins and fats to make them easier to process, and to prevent sticking, for example in non-stick cooking spray. Lecithin is not known to cause any adverse reactions in people or canines with soy allergies, and is not considered soy even though derived from soy (thus our products can be labeled soy free). If you have any concerns, or your dog is highly allergic to soy, you may want to verify with your vet that it will not cause a reaction.
Our treats have a 2-year shelf life. A “Best By” date is printed on the bottom of the pouches, on the back of the boxed products, and on the bottom of 3.25 oz Z-Fillets. If left unopened, they should be good up to that date, if not longer.
Our treats do not need to be refrigerated. Because condensation can build up in the bags of refrigerated treats, they can actually mold or spoil more quickly if refrigerated. Our semi-moist treats keep best in a cool & dry area where they are well protected from exposure to the elements.
Salt is used as a natural substitute for harsh chemical preservatives. Without some form of preservative, the treats would get moldy and/or get very hard before they get used. While we do use as little as possible, it is necessary to have some amount of salt in several of our treats. Small amounts of salt are not harmful, and are actually part of a balanced diet, so it is no problem for the dogs or cats eating the treats.
Yes, all of our products are guaranteed made in the USA and all of the meat, fruit, and veggies are sourced from the USA as well (with the exception of the Rabbit and the Venison, which come from New Zealand).
