The 'tiny shiny fragments' that you are seeing is actually the Glucosamine that we add to the Hip Action treats that makes them work so well for your pets. As we use fresh ingredients, sometimes there are inconsistencies in the batches, but the product is not bad. Sometimes the Glucosamine rises to the surface of the treat, appearing as tiny, shiny flakes. However, the next bag you buy will hopefully be what you are used to!

We try and keep the information as up to date as possible, but we can't list all the stores that stock Zuke's. Power Bones have a new formula which utilizes protein (beef, chicken or peanut butter), complex carbohydrates (rice, oats, barley, apples and sweet potatoes) and simple carbohydrates (natural sugars from beets, and maple syrup) to give dogs the energy they need.

Yes, garlic is safe for dogs unless they consume more than one clove per ten pounds of body weight per day. Zuke's products contain only a small amount of garlic, which we include for its high antioxidant value.

Our treats can be fed interchangeably, with the exception of Hip Action. As with smaller dogs, make sure to break up larger treats into bite-sized pieces for cats. Your cats may not enjoy the dog treats, though. Many of our treats include rosemary as a strong antioxidant, and although it won’t hurt them, some cats do not like it. (Rosemary is sometimes called the anti-cat nip, but one can NEVER make a blanket statement for ALL cats! )

Don't be alarmed. If you notice a change in urine color to pink or red it is an indication that your dog is digesting the bone well and excess, anti-oxidant Cherry is being secreted normally. It is like when a human takes a Multi Vitamin and his/her urine turns darker yellow.

Your dog's safety is the most important thing to us. Because of how small the digestive system is in a young puppy, the mini Z-Bone is more volume than we feel a dog of that size can safely eat.

We know your dog's safety is the most important thing to you, and it is to us, too! We don't recommend Z-Bones for puppies or small dogs because they tend to not thoroughly chew Z-Bones, creating a potential choking hazard. Also, even though our new formula is high in protein (over 9.5%) and more digestible than the previous recipe, they still contain a lot of starch for smaller digestive systems, which may cause diarrhea.

Both the Glucosamine and Chondroitin in our Hip Action are animal protein based. The Glucosamine is derived from shellfish, and the Chondroitin is beef-based.

Don't worry – your pet may have an upset stomach and he could have diarrhea or gas, as can happen when pets eat too much of anything. If you're still feeling concerned, or if you feel your pet is overly distressed, we recommend that you seek advice from your veterinarian.

Because of the high quality ingredients we use in all of our treats we do not perform animal testing for safety or nutritional purposes. We have all of our treats analyzed in a lab to verify the contents and the amounts of protein, fat, fiber, potassium, calcium, and sodium among other things. We also test the "tastiness" of the treats by feeding them to our own pets and sending them out to veterinary hospitals, humane societies and others who fill out a survey asking about how the dogs responded to the treats. In short, we really don't do any kind of "animal testing" in the conventional sense. Just feeding to willing participants to make sure they like the taste of our treats!

While we do not make a treat specifically for diabetic pets, several of our treats do not contain sugar. Mini Naturals (in Chicken, Peanut Butter and Salmon flavors) are only 3 calories per treat, and contain no added sugars or sweeteners. Several of our treats have maple syrup or molasses as sweeteners and may not be advisable for your dog. Our lecithin is derived from soybean oil. However, it should not be an issue or thought of as an allergen is because it is extracted from the oils or fats of the soybean. Fats are not the cause of allergies, proteins are the actual culprits. Lecithin is used as an emulsifier, which helps breakdown proteins and fats to make them easier to process, and to prevent sticking, for example in non-stick cooking spray. Lecithin is not known to cause any adverse reactions in people or canines with soy allergies, and is not considered soy even though derived from soy (thus our products can be labeled soy free). If you have any concerns, or your dog is highly allergic to soy, you may want to verify with your vet that it will not cause a reaction.

Our treats have a 2-year shelf life. A “Best By” date is printed on the bottom of the pouches, on the back of the boxed products, and on the back of 3.25 oz Z-Filets and Skinny Bakes. If left unopened, they should be good up to that date, if not longer.

Our treats do not need to be refrigerated. Because condensation can build up in the bags of refrigerated treats, they can actually mold or spoil more quickly if refrigerated. Our semi-moist treats keep best in a cool & dry area where they are well protected from exposure to the elements.

Salt is used as a natural substitute for harsh chemical preservatives. Without some form of preservative, the treats would get moldy and/or get very hard before they get used. While we do use as little as possible, it is necessary to have some amount of salt in several of our treats. Small amounts of salt are not harmful, and are actually part of a balanced diet, so it is no problem for the dogs or cats eating the treats.

Yes, all of our products are guaranteed made in the USA and all of the meat, fruit, and veggies are sourced from the USA as well (with the exception of the Rabbit and the Venison, which come from New Zealand).

If you do not recieve the password within a minute or so, please make sure that your email program (Outlook, for example) has not marked the message as SPAM. Also, if you do not receive your password, your email provider (AOL, hotmail, msn for example) may think that the message is SPAM, please ensure that mail from zukes.com is delivered; this is often called adding an address to your "whitelist".
