Jake & Zim

Zim keeping Jake company on Slickrock Trail, Moab, UT

I rescued Zim from a shelter in Colorado in 2004.  He became my full-time climbing partner instantly, scrambling the North ridge of Torreys Peak on our second day together.

His adaptability and capabilities amazed me.  Biking, climbing, skiing and dog-powered skateboarding; I didn’t think anything could slow him down.  When we discovered Zukes, he became unstoppable.  This picture is proof.  That day we rode the slickrock trail and Moab rim in Utah.  It was hot and there was no shade for a black, furry dog…  Just some Powerbones and most of my Camelback.

Zim first discovered a fondness for Zukes during one of his afternoon counter surfing sessions. The mere mention of his favorite treats results in a curious head tilt that can make even the most macho wince.

Now they’re the 11th essential whenever we head out for the next adventure.

Maya Skateboarding!

This is our 4 month old pug puppy Maya.  She loves Zuke’s!  She doesn’t have all her shots yet, so her outdoor adventures are in the backpack carrier shown in the photo with the Zuke’s box (we got a shipment today and she was very excited!)

For the past week, in our side yard, she is learning how to skateboard and Zuke’s is her motivation!  She hasn’t learned how to keep one or two legs down in order to push the board herself, but she goes a few feet when she jumps on.  Then, she looks back at me for her Zuke’s Mini Naturals (peanut butter flavor).

Since we got the shipment in today, she’s now tried all three Mini Naturals flavors, and loves them all!  She also just tried (and loved) Beef Power Bones and Peanut Butter ‘n Blueberry Mini Bakes!  Thank you for making such a great product!  Maya is much more motivated for all her training now that she has Zuke’s!

Lola enjoying the outdoors!

Meet Lola…seen here on a twelve day camping adventure exploring Colorado.   Lola never hikes or takes a walk in her Durango neighborhood without Zukes!  A day in Lola’s life would not be complete without those yummy treats!   Lola also learned everything she knows by being rewarded with Zukes.   Thanks Patrick and everyone at Zukes for making these nutrtious treats;  they allow her to continue to live up to her name, “Run Lola Run”!
Keep those Zukes coming!

Dib Tree Climbing!

Attached is a picture of Dib, our 6 year old Boder Collie. He’s a bit hyper and just hiking isn’t quite enough activity for him.  He needs the added challenge of climbing all the rocks, stumps, and trees along the way. His command for this is “Tree”, so far he’s the only dog I’ve met with that trick down.  The squirrels don’t really like it when he follows them up the tree, but he’s well trained and lets them go.

Since he can’t eat the squirrels, on all our trips we have a bag of Zukes along with us. (I know we’re supposed to say that, but in this case it’s actually true.)  He knows just by the sound of the bag crinkling that he’s going to be rewarded for his hard work on the trail.  His favorite are the peanut butter PowerBones.

Thanks,

Katherine Walton

Quincy & Flicka

Running on Water!

My lab/golden retriever mix “Quincy” (left), and his best friend, black lab “Flicka” (right) love to get together for romps in the great outdoors. Both were originally bred to be service dogs, but decided they’d rather be roughin’ it up. Both compete in various dog sports, but once every month or so the pups like to let loose and return to dogdom. Quincy knows Flicka’s road, and starts pacing and whining in the car as we pull up. Both he and Flicka know that they get to do marvelous things when the other is there. In the winter months it’s hiking through the woods, romping in the snow here in SE Michigan. But in the summer, these water dogs want to get wet! They don’t have webbed feet for nothing! Quincy and Flicka play for hours, retrieving bumpers and sticks, running and playing until they drop. When that happens, nothing perks the pups up like some Zuke’s treats. Since labs tend to get a little, um, “plump”, we all love Zuke’s Mini Naturals. the perfect bite-sized treat to keep them energized without adding to their waistlines. Thanks for making such great products, our retrieving duo give them 2 webbed paws way up!

Hagrid on an Adventure!

Meet Hagrid the Adventure Bichon Frise. Yes, he has the best ‘fro this side of the Charles River, but don’t be fooled! Hands down he wins top prize for being best coiffed but he would prefer to be known for his athletic prowess. Here he is recently at the Middlesex Fells in MA. He never misses an opportunity to hike on- and off-trail, swim in watering holes or the open ocean, dig, chase squirrels, roll in stinky stuff, eat delicious contraband… in short, he is all about exploring the outdoors. Sometimes he heeds the call of the wild with such intensity that I can only entice him to come when called when I use Zuke’s mini naturals treats. He loves all the flavors: salmon, chicken, peanut butter, you name it, he’ll eat it. I call it puppy crack. It passes my high standards of feeding Hagrid an all-natural high quality diet and I love knowing he’ll be as happy to come for a Zuke’s treat as he is when he flies over felled trees in the woods.

Victoria & Uno

Uno carrying his Zuke's!

Here’s a picture of Uno with his new backpack. He’s my best friend and partner in crime. Whenever we hike together, the passerbyers crack jokes that he’s carrying all the load, which is far from the true. Usually its a bag of Zukes power bones, his portable water bowl, water, doodie bags and maybe a floatie toy if we come across a pond. I lucked out to have found a dog that loves outdoors as much as I do. In this particular shot, he decided to climb atop of a large fallen tree of uknown origin, he has a knack for finding things, particularly those that always seem to revolt me ( think smelly and dead). But there’s not a day that goes by, that he doesn’t make me laugh, no matter how repulsive his quirks may be.

Sarah & Chailey

Chailey at Herman Lake & asking for more Zuke's!

“Yeah, this is a pretty good view, Mom. But do you have any of those Zuke’s left? What’s that I hear crackling in the backpack?!!”

This is Chailey at about 12,000’ in Colorado. He gets added energy and power on long hikes such as this one with Zuke’s Power Bones. He knows the packaging and can’t wait for his tasty energy bar! With such good nutrition, he feels satiated and has the patience to sit down and enjoy the view.

Although Chailey’s first 2 years on this earth may have been rough, he’s actually the one who rescued me when I adopted him. I feed him Zuke’s because he deserves the very best and because he wants to support his dog and cat friends in the treatment and cure for canine cancer. Thanks Zuke’s, and keep up the great work!

Bear checking out some nearby chipmunks!
