Zuke’s Advocate Program Ready to Roll with 2012 Roster

Durango, Colo. (Nov. 30, 2011) – Meet Porter, Leo, Penny, Lucky, Aslan, Everest & Pumpkin. They have different interests and different addresses, but they all share the same daily fix: Zuke’s all natural pet performance treats. These lucky dogs and one kitty, along with their two-legged human companions, have been named to the inaugural 2012 Zuke’s Advocate Program.

This national advocacy campaign engages active pet owners and their animals to spread their enthusiasm for a healthy lifestyle. Zuke’s all natural products are central to good nutrition, and hence, to the Advocate Program.

The inaugural roster – of humans and their furry best friends – will represent Zuke’s throughout 2012. The advocates will attend multiple dog-friendly events from pet extravaganzas, to AKC obedience shows, to “caninecross,” a trail running race where dog and racer must be attached at all times. All advocate duos, or trios, will be compensated in unlimited healthy Zuke’s dog treats, as well as sweet Zuke’s apparel and informational materials to share with community members.

“Reviewing the applications was truly inspiring and every applicant completely charmed us. It has only deepened our commitment to supporting healthy, active and devoted life with pets,” said Zuke’s Marketing Director, Nicole Glover. “We’re confident we have a talented and energetic team of human and canine advocates for 2012. We look forward to all the stories, memories and fun to come.”

Keep Hope Alive!

One more month, three easy ways

To support the Dog and Cat Cancer Fund

Any time is a good time to support The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund (DCCF), but there’s only a limited amount of time to raise the DCCF coffers by doing what you already do — buying Zuke’s treats!

Huh?

The Keep Hope Alive! campaign runs through June 30, 2011. In purchasing the Zuke’s treats you normally buy for your animals, you have an opportunity to donate to the DCCF – and it won’t cost a penny more.

How?

  1. Clip the UPC code from any Zuke’s Natural Treat package and mail it back to us. For every UPC received before June 30, 2011, we will donate $0.50 to the DCCF. Gather up a bunch and mail them to:

Zuke’s
ATTN: Keep Hope Alive
PO Box 3210
Durango, CO 81302

*Save the postage and check with your local pet food store. Many stores are gathering UPC codes and will send them en masse just before the deadline.

  1. Buy the specially marked 2-packs of Zuke’s Jerky Naturals® and we will donate 25% of the purchase price to the DCCF. Just look for the “Keep Hope Alive” band at your local store or online. With the 2-packs, we will donate as long as supplies last.

Win-win. Your dog gets her Zuke’s treat (or let Isabella the dog convince you here) and someone else’s dog may get a second chance at a healthy life (read about some of the animals the DCCF has helped here).

  1. Make a direct donation to the Dog and Cat Cancer Fund. Okay, this one does come out of the penny bank, but each penny is deeply appreciated. Just to be clear: there is no deadline for giving to the DCCF. Your generosity is welcome and appreciated at any time. To make a direct donation, please visit the DCCF website

Zuke’s® Kicks off Keep Hope Alive™ 2011 Promotion to Support The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund™ (DCCF)

Company sets goal to raise additional $15,000 for the DCCF in Q2-2011

Zuke’s™ is proud to reinforce its 2011 support for The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund ™ (DCCF) with the launch of the ‘Keep Hope Alive’ promotion. The promotional campaign is designed to make a difference in the lives of pets and pet owners by directly donating money to the DCCF, an organization that helps families who cannot afford life saving treatments for their pets with cancer.

Zuke’s recognizes the unfortunate, yet increasing mortality rate of cancer in pets; canine cancer causes nearly 50-percent deaths in older dogs.

Since 2008, Zuke’s has been committed to creating positive change through its business to fund programs that help combat canine and feline cancer. Zuke’s is proud to have helped the DCCF support over 60 individual pets and their families in the fight against cancer, but realizes there is a lot more support that can be offered. In 2010, Zuke’s donated over $40,000 to the DCCF and hopes to raise over $15,000 through this campaign alone.

For 2011, Zuke’s has issued a call to action on behalf of the DCCF: Zuke’s encourages retailers and customers alike to take part in the ‘Keep Hope Alive’ promotion that will run from April through June 2011. In addition to donating a portion of Zuke’s annual sales, the promotion will also donate $.50 to the DCCF for every UPC they receive in the mail, as well as 25-percent of the sales from specially branded promotional two-packs of Jerky Naturals.

“My dog, Zuke, was the inspiration for the company’s inception, but also for the commitment to The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund, as Zuke was a victim of cancer,” said Patrick Meiering, founder of Zuke’s.

“We are positive that Zuke’s ‘Keep Hope Alive’ promotion will push their contributions even higher and help us launch our research program in 2011. The additional funds will also directly help even more dogs and cats get treatment this year,” said Christopher Meiering, Ph.D., executive director of the DCCF.

Beyond monetary donations, one of Zuke’s core values is to promote and further the benefits of leading a healthy, active and devoted life with your pet, everyday. As part of their commitment to a maintaining a healthy planet for all pet owners and their pets: Zuke’s is made in the USA, uses only the cleanest, all-natural ingredients, powers their offices with green energy, uses 100-percent wind energy to manufacture their baked treats and uses post-consumer recycled packaging as often as is possible.

Zuke’s Doubles Donations to the Dog & Cat Cancer Fund

Every purchase made in December will help increase overall contributions

Durango, Colo. (December 17, 2010) – Zuke’s all-‐natural pet treats and chews are known for their clean ingredients, sustainable manufacturing and community involvement.

Throughout the year, Zuke’s donates a portion of sales to The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund, and contributes more than $30,000 per year to the organization. And, in a special push to increase that contribution this year, Zuke’s will double their donation in the month of December.

Now, in addition to being a great last-‐minute gift idea for those furry family members every purchase will also go to further support this great cause.

“My dog, Zuke, inspired the idea behind the company and is also the inspiration for our commitment to The Dog & Cat Cancer Fund,” said Patrick Meiering, founder and CEO of Zuke’s. “Zuke was a victim of cancer, and we are hopeful that our contributions will help fund research to treat the disease, as well as help fund treatment for those pets who are fighting cancer.”

According to Pet Care TV, an exclusive pet-‐related news and information channel aired exclusively in Vet Clinics, 60-‐percent of all dogs will be diagnosed with cancer within their lifetime, and cancer is the leading natural cause of death.1 Additional research from Texas A&M’s Veterinary School states that dogs have 35 times as much skin cancer as humans, four times as many breast tumors, eight times as much bone cancer, and twice as high an incidence of leukemia.2

While many cancers can be linked to genetics, hormones and infections, they are also linked to the environment. One goal of The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund is to better understand how local exposure to environmental toxins contributes to the development of cancer.

“Even though it is impossible to prevent cancer,” Meiering continues, “it is safe to assume that healthy, clean ingredients will not be a contributing factor. Because of our all-‐natural ingredients and quality manufacturing standards, you can be confident that your pet treats are not increasing their risks of cancer through environmental toxins.”

Zuke’s has been supporting the DCCF (http://www.DCCFund.org) for over three years now. In addition to the DCCF, Zuke’s also sponsors humane societies, dog teams, racing teams and community organizations.

Zuke’s Appoints John Hart as New President

Durango, Colo. (October 7, 2010) – Zuke’s, a leader in performance-driven, all natural pet treats and chews, today announced that it has named John Hart as president, effective immediately.

Hart brings over 15 years experience in the pet industry; most recently he served as chief executive officer and chief financial officer for Eagle Pack Pet Foods, Inc., where he successfully led the company through a transition from family to private equity ownership.  During his tenure with Eagle Pack Pet Foods, Hart also built an infrastructure to support growth of branded products, and developed a go-to-market strategy for a branded portfolio, which includes: product development, new brand launch, line extensions and a sales team implementation plan.  Previously, Hart held several sales, marketing and accounting roles primarily in the wine and spirits industry, where he led the development of sales goals, budget creation and allocation and financial performance tracking.

As Hart settles into his new role at Zuke’s, his primary focus will be to establish a global presence and awareness for the Zuke’s brand while building out an internal infrastructure to support and sustain the company’s growth.

Patrick Meiering, founder and chief executive officer for Zuke’s, will remain active in his current role, and will work closely with Hart to continue the Zuke’s tradition of sustainable growth through holistic products, loving devotion to our pets, and the promotion of leading a healthy active life with your pet.

“In an effort to increase efficiency and focus, my concentration will shift from traditional sales and operational functions to marketing, branding and innovation efforts, on which Zuke’s is founded,” said Meiering.  “Bringing a thoroughly seasoned and experienced president in John Hart will help Zuke’s build upon the 15 years we have devoted to the natural and organic movement in pet nutrition, while allowing me to focus on my strengths within the company as an innovator and entrepreneur.”

“I’m very excited to be joining the team at Zuke’s,” said Hart.  “The company’s long history of product innovation and pioneering in functional treats for pets has established them as a leader in the pet specialty treat category.  I’m looking forward to being a part of the exciting growth and innovation that lies ahead for Zuke’s.”

Meiering adds, “Zuke’s is well known for its all-natural, functional treats, as well as for its core values around our corporate social responsibility platform, such as green manufacturing and our sponsorship of the Dog & Cat Cancer Fund.  We look forward to continuing to enhance these core values and beliefs, and delivering uniquely natural, organic and functional pet products that are healthy and loved by people and pets alike.”

Zuke’s Sponsors Dog Athletes

Zuke’s Sponsors Dog Athletes

CSR initiatives includes athlete support, of the furry kind

Durango, Colo. (July 26, 2010) – Zuke’s, a leader in performance-driven, all natural pet treats, has several great components of it’s triple bottom line focus, including sponsoring dog’s athletic endeavors.

In March 2010, Zuke’s shared their corporate social responsibility report, which contained details around their environmental stewardship, their community involvements and their charitable support.  One intriguing component of their CSR initiatives includes their sponsorship of dog athletes, from Frisbee teams to search and rescue dogs to outdoor tour guides.

“Our company’s roots lie within the outdoors and around the concept of dog athletes,” said Patrick Meiering, founder of Zuke’s.  “We got our start in my garage in 1995 when I started creating my own version of today’s Power Bones with a hand mixer.  I was inspired to create all natural, performance-driven treats that would support my dog’s energy and body function on the trails after a long day of hiking.  Our energy- and nutrient-rich snacks provide dogs with the right punch of energy to support their vitality during training and competition.

Zuke’s currently sponsors a dozen or so dog athletes and teams, including the Flying Houndz Frisbee Team and the La Plata County Search and Rescue Team.

Flying Houndz Frizbee Trick Dog Show is a high-flying, action packed, thrilling show providing fun, family entertainment for a wide variety of venues.  Many of the dogs are rescues, and they are featured in professionally choreographed shows with world-class trick Frisbee dogs, presented by professional entertainers.

“Our dog family have been proudly sponsored by Zuke’s for four years and we are grateful to be part of a company that represents quality ingredients in their products, a genuine care for animals and the community along with owners and a staff that are sincere in their quest,” said Jeff Wright, founder of Flying Houndz Frisbee Trick Dog Show.  “Our relationship with Zuke’s has allowed us to reach people and their canines by letting us share the importance of good, healthy treats with wholesome ingredients.”

You can find out more about the Flying Houndz Frizbee Trick Dog Show and their tour by visiting www.flyinghoundzfrizbee.com.  Catch them performing at schools, festivals, women and men NBA and college halftime shows.

Also, for the past year, Zuke’s has been sponsoring the La Plata County Search and Rescue Canine Team is an all volunteer group of dogs and handlers who assist in locating lost persons on wilderness search and rescue missions.

“Search and rescue dogs are called upon to search for hours in difficult terrain, which requires a tremendous amount of energy,” said the La Plata County Search and Rescue Team Leader, Katie Steelman.  “The Zuke’s treats provide a healthy source of energy during trainings and missions, and the dogs love them. Since our team is self funded, the handlers appreciate the treats almost as much as the dogs!”

For more information about La Plata County Search and Rescue, visit La Plata County Search and Rescue.

Zuke’s is a great choice for supporting pets’ active lifestyles and is committed to using the finest ingredients and avoiding all those unnecessary additives and preservatives. Zuke’s meats, grains, fruits and veggies are sourced in the USA, with the exception of lamb and venison, which come from New Zealand. In Zuke’s treats you’ll never find any harsh preservatives like BHA, added animal fat or tallow, nasty by–products or artificial colors or flavors or low-cost fillers like wheat and corn.

Zuke’s Continues Leadership in All-Natural, Sustainable Products and Manufacturing

Zuke’s is proud of their efforts to provide exceptional quality treats for pets with the finest ingredients possible. As a company that loves pets and the outdoors, they are equally dedicated to protecting the environment, and continually looking for ways to increase their impact in their communities and decrease their footprint on Mother Earth. These efforts include special attention to their ingredient sourcing, as well as eco-conscious production and packaging initiatives.

“In addition to using eco-friendly packages, and alternative energies for our offices and manufacturing, we also offer eco-incentives to our employees,” says Patrick Meiering, founder of Zuke’s. “We offer incentives to employees if they chose to commute to the offices on their bikes, and we also power our offices with 100-percent green electricity.”

Additionally, all of Zuke’s packaging boxes are made with 100-percent recycled paperboard.
